The XL-Chem Graduate School of Research in Chemistry is based on three main pillars: research, education and industrial valorisation. XL-Chem trains the students to develop an expertise in chemistry in the field of life sciences, and also to understand different professional environments. In the XL-Chem program, students will get a certified training in management that will allow them to acquire soft skills, complementary to their scientific skills.
TRAINING SCIENTIFIC PROJECT MANAGERS

Students will acquire a better understanding of societal, legal and economic issues that need to be taken into account in the decisions that managers in the chemical, pharmaceutical, luxury industries as well as other related industries are required to make. These students will benefit from a first-class teaching provided by international and scientific academics.
OFFERING EACH STUDENT A CUSTOMIZED PROGRAM

You will become part of an international environment with students from around the world. You will get the opportunity to discover new cultures, as well as the Normandy region. This worldwide network will offer you various wide-ranging opportunities of experience.
GOVERNANCE
At the operational level of the program, Professor Pierre-Yves RENARD is the head of the XL-Chem Research of Chemistry University. Normandie Université supports him in his work by providing administrative and financial support and 4 subcommittees are dedicated to research, courses, valorisation and communication, and administrative aspects.
The XL-Chem Graduate School of Research’s team
The XL-Chem Graduate School of Research is made up of three levels of governance, approved by all the Normandie Université partners as well as the CNRS (National Center for Scientific Research). This governance relies on an external expertise that ensures quality and transparency, a scientific governance at an institutional level and a global scientific coherence at the norman level:
Global steering of GSR, made up of the scientific leader, people in charge of the administrative and financial monitoring of Normandie Université and all the members of the 4 subcommittees (Education, Research, Valorisation and Communication).
The Steering Committee ensures the tracking of the contract of objectives and resources. It follows the following principles : development and reinforcement of reactivity, efficiency of decision-making, respecting scientific and pedagogic objectives.
Scientific and pedagogic steering made up of the Unit Directors of the Laboratories implicated in the XL-Chem GSR, directors of chemistry courses, directors of the LabEx SynOrg and Carnot I2C, as well as the Universities deans and directors of studies in the Engineering Schools.
The Executive Committee’s role is defining the execution of the educational program and following the evolution of the operational developments, proposing mitigation plans if necessary, and reporting to the Steering Committee, the adequacy between the site strategy and the actual execution of the SG.
Made up of experts selected for their experience and achievements in the research, educational, international and socio-economic fields. Its aim is to oversee the XL-Chem Graduate School of Research’s global strategy from an external point of view.

AN “A LA CARTE” CHEMISTRY COURSE IN ALL OF NORMANDY
XL-Chem is a training program on the whole Norman territory. Once they are enrolled in one of the establishments (Caen, Le Havre or Rouen), the Master students will be able to choose the courses they want to follow amongst those offered on the cursus portfolio available of the different chemistry programs, in the whole region, so they can create an “à la carte” cursus in accordance with their professional objectives. At the end of their Master, the students will be able to follow up with the XL-Chem PhD program which entails a high international dimension and a thesis, half of which can be done abroad.
